Pancakeswap is the Interface for Opening, Verifying, and Closing a Perpetual Position
Posted:
Pancakeswap is a wallet-connected route for opening a perpetual position, confirming that the order actually filled, closing the exposure, and returning released collateral to the wallet. For a first trade, connect the intended address, fund its perps balance, choose Simple or Pro Mode, select a market and direction, set size and leverage, then submit. Treat the order as live only after the Positions panel shows its fill, and withdraw only the balance marked available after the account is flat.
A pending order is not a position; record its fill price and size only after execution.
From wallet connection to a flat account in six stages
The Pancakeswap first-position workflow has six operational stages, beginning with the correct wallet address and ending when the withdrawn asset appears in that wallet. The newer perps interface shows Simple and Pro Mode and uses Aster order-book infrastructure; an older legacy screen follows a different workflow.
- Connect the wallet. Select the address that will fund, own, and later close the position. A connection through MetaMask or WalletConnect identifies the account, while each value-moving action still requires its own approval or signature.
- Fund the perps balance. Open the deposit control, select the network and supported collateral asset, enter the amount, and approve the transaction. Wait until Portfolio reports the balance as available before preparing an order.
- Select the trading mode and market. Simple Mode offers one-tap directional controls. Pro Mode exposes the order book, chart, order type, margin settings, and optional exit instructions.
- Define the position. Choose UP or long for upward exposure, or DOWN or short for downward exposure. Set collateral, position size, and leverage without treating the maximum control as a default.
- Submit and verify the fill. A signed request first becomes an order. Check its status, then read the resulting position row for the executed size and average entry price.
- Close and withdraw. Reduce the position to zero, confirm that no separate order could reopen it, and withdraw the available balance through Portfolio.
Those stages separate three records that newcomers frequently conflate: the wallet transaction, the submitted order, and the filled position. Each record confirms a different part of the route.
Funding the perps balance before the order
The perps balance is the collateral account used by the order ticket, so merely connecting a wallet does not make its ordinary wallet balance tradable. Select Deposit, specify the network, token, and amount, and approve the transfer. On BNB Chain, retain some BNB in the wallet for blockchain transactions rather than depositing the entire native-token balance.
The documented BNB Chain funding set names 14 assets: BNB, USDT, CAKE, BTC, ETH, USD1, asBNB, lisUSD, WBETH, slisBNB, LISTA, USDF, ASTER, and TWT. Availability remains visible in the deposit selector, which is decisive because supported collateral is narrower than the assets a wallet can hold. Pro Mode also exposes two collateral arrangements: single-asset mode uses USDT, while multi-asset mode assigns eligible assets collateral values and shares their contribution across the account.
After the deposit confirms, compare the Portfolio balance with the amount shown in the order panel. A missing balance points to the selected address, network, or asset account - not to the market ticket - and should be resolved before an order is entered.
Simple Mode or Pro Mode: choosing the first ticket
Simple Mode and Pro Mode open positions through the same perps account, but they expose different controls. The interface permits switching between the two modes without changing an existing position, so the choice determines how the order is prepared rather than where the exposure is held.
Simple Mode presents three sizing shortcuts - 25%, 50%, and MAX - alongside four displayed leverage presets: 50x, 100x, 150x, and 200x. It then maps UP to long exposure and DOWN to short exposure. The highest leverage available is market-specific, and the 200x ceiling published for BTC and major pairs is a limit, not a suggested first setting.
Pro Mode adds a TradingView chart, the visible order book, margin configuration, and direct control over market and limit orders. It also supports stop and take-profit or stop-loss instructions. Select Pro when the entry must wait for a chosen price or when the closing condition needs to be attached during order preparation; select Simple when an immediate directional market order expresses the intended action.
Choosing the market, direction, size, and leverage
A separate explanation covers Pancakeswap slippage. The order ticket turns four inputs - market, direction, size, and leverage - into a position request. BTCUSDT, for example, expresses BTC price exposure against USDT without transferring BTC into the position. Long and short are the two directions: a long gains when the contract price rises, while a short gains when it falls.
Notional exposure equals allocated collateral multiplied by leverage. Collateral is the account value committed to support the position, whereas notional is the larger market exposure controlled by that collateral. Read both figures before submission because typing an intended collateral amount into a notional field, or reversing those fields, produces a materially different position.
Worked example - all changing inputs are hypothetical. Assume a BTCUSDT long uses 20 USDT of collateral, 5x leverage, a hypothetical entry of 100,000 USDT per BTC, and a hypothetical closing price of 102,000 USDT. The notional is 20 × 5 = 100 USDT. The market move is 2%, so the position gain is 100 × 2% = 2 USDT. Ignoring funding and trading charges, closing releases 22 USDT: the original 20 USDT plus the 2 USDT gain. None of these prices represents a live quote.
Submitting the order and separating pending from filled
Order submission creates an instruction; execution creates the position. In Simple Mode, UP or DOWN sends a market instruction intended to trade at the best available price. In Pro Mode, Buy/Long or Sell/Short submits the configured market or limit order after the review panel displays its direction, size, and leverage.
Four statuses matter during this handoff: new or pending, partially filled, filled, and canceled. A pending limit order has no executed exposure for its unfilled quantity. A partial fill creates exposure only for the matched amount, while the remainder stays in Open Orders under its time-in-force instructions. A filled status moves the executed quantity into the position record.
The wallet activity proves that the request was authorized, not that the selected quantity traded. Read the order status inside the perps interface, then verify the average entry and executed size. If a limit entry no longer matches the intended plan, cancel its unfilled remainder before preparing another order.
Reading the position record after execution
The position record is the authoritative interface view of live exposure associated with the connected address. The position panel records seven essential fields: pair, direction, size, entry price, mark price, liquidation price, and estimated profit or loss. Pro Mode adds related controls such as leverage, margin mode, and closing instructions around that core record.
Entry price is the average execution level, not necessarily the quote visible before submission. Mark price is the reference used for ongoing position calculations, while estimated profit or loss remains unrealized until a close executes. Compare the pair, side, and size against the intended ticket before relying on the profit-and-loss display.
If no row appears, first check Open Orders for an unfilled instruction. Next confirm the connected address and the account or network selected in Portfolio. Repeating the order before locating the first request risks creating two instructions when the original was merely pending or displayed under another tab.
Closing completely, reducing partially, or flattening in Simple Mode
A close action reduces existing exposure, and a complete close leaves the position size at zero. In Pro Mode, select Close on the position row, choose the quantity, review the opposite-side market instruction, and confirm. Entering less than the full size performs a partial close; choosing the entire size exits the position.
Simple Mode uses directional taps to add or subtract units. Two equal UP taps double the original long unit, while one UP followed by one equal DOWN returns the account to flat. When several taps have accumulated, confirm the resulting size rather than counting button presses from memory, because unequal sizing or an intervening fill changes the amount required to flatten.
After execution, the live position row should show zero exposure or disappear from the active list, and the realized outcome should appear in trade history. Inspect Open Orders separately. A standalone limit, stop, or conditional instruction is a distinct record, so leaving one active could create or change exposure after the manual close. Only then is the account ready for a clean withdrawal.
Withdrawing the released balance back to the wallet
A perps withdrawal moves available account balance to the connected wallet after the position has been closed. The sequence has four actions: open Portfolio, select Withdraw, choose the network, token, and amount, then approve the transfer in the wallet. Closing alone releases collateral inside the perps account; it does not complete that transfer.
The maximum withdrawable amount can be lower than the displayed total when an open order reserves margin or another position still uses the account balance. Multi-asset accounts also require any negative asset balance to be resolved or rebalanced before withdrawal. Check those account-level values if MAX is below the expected realized balance.
Blockchain confirmation completes the final leg. Match the destination address and network in the withdrawal review, then verify both the withdrawal history and the receiving wallet balance. Once the token appears at that address, the opening, position verification, close, and collateral-return workflow is complete.
Good to know
Does disconnecting the wallet close a live Pancakeswap position?
No, disconnecting the browser wallet does not close a live position. The order and position remain associated with the wallet address in the perps account after the page closes or the connection ends. Reconnect the same address, select the correct account context, and inspect Positions before submitting another instruction. A position ends only through an executed close or another protocol-defined settlement event.
Can I keep a perpetual position open past midnight?
Yes, a standard perpetual position has no scheduled expiry date. It remains open until an exit order executes or the protocol closes it under its position rules. Funding transfers continue to affect the account while exposure remains live, so calendar time is not neutral even though midnight has no special effect. Stock-linked markets can also follow their own trading schedules, unlike continuously traded crypto markets.
What happens if only part of my Pro limit order fills?
A partial fill creates a position for the executed quantity while leaving the unmatched quantity as an open order. The Positions panel should show the filled exposure, and Open Orders should show the remainder. Cancel that remainder if no additional exposure is wanted. Closing the existing position does not by itself prove that a separate unfilled entry instruction has been removed.
Are take-profit and stop-loss settings required for a first Pro order?
No, take-profit and stop-loss fields are optional when preparing a Pro Mode order. They create conditional exit instructions tied to selected trigger levels, while the entry can be submitted without either field. If they are used, review the trigger price, price reference, direction, and covered quantity. After any manual close, inspect Open Orders to confirm that no separate conditional instruction remains active.
Which record should I save after the position closes?
The completed trade-history record is the useful closing record because it reflects executed data rather than a pre-trade quote. Save the market, direction, executed size, average entry, average close, realized profit or loss, and timestamps shown by the account. The wallet transaction confirms authorization or transfer activity, but it does not replace the trade record that describes the position's actual execution.
